A – Annual Mammogram: The most important step in protecting your health is getting regular mammograms, quick and safe breast X-rays that use less radiation than a dental exam. They can detect cancer years before a lump is felt, giving you a vital head start on treatment. Because breast cancer risk increases with age, yearly mammograms are recommended starting at 40. B – Breast Awareness: Doing a monthly self-exam by checking all areas of the breast and armpit for lumps or changes helps you stay aware between doctor visits. Most breast lumps are not cancer, but it’s important to see your doctor if you notice anything unusual.
C – Clinical Breast Exam: See your doctor or nurse for regular clinical breast exams every three years in your 20s and 30s and yearly after 40. A thorough exam checks all breast tissue, reviews your health history, and discusses your breast health plan. If it feels rushed or incomplete, talk to your doctor.
