Honoring our Heroes
In 1999, Congress officially designated May as National Military Appreciation Month. This observance provides the nation with a meaningful opportunity to publicly express gratitude for the dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel, both past and present.
- 31 presidents have served in the military.
- In 1948, President Harry Truman signed a pivotal antidiscrimination bill, ending racial and gender bias in the military and allowing women to enlist during peacetime, not just wartime.
- The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the U.S. government. Over 3,500 Medals of Honor have been awarded since its inception in 1861.
- The U.S. military has a long history of using service dogs, which play vital roles in search and rescue, bomb detection, and providing support to soldiers with PTSD.
Today, there are more than 18 million living veterans in the United States. At Hunton, founded by a Navy veteran, we proudly employ 55 veterans across our organization.
