Hunton Group at 45: Built on people. Growing with purpose.
Over 45 years in business, the Hunton Group, has grown nearly tenfold – without losing sight of the people who helped build it and the values that matter to them.
Founded in Houston, the family-owned company has grown to more than 700 associates, with eight operations across Southeast Texas and a portfolio of businesses with over $1 billion in annual sales. The entire company is focused on a mission to “radically improve the indoor environments in which people live, work, learn and play.”
That growth continues in 2026, including an expansion into College Station and more than 100 employees hired over the past year.
Yet even as the company gets bigger, leadership remains focused on putting people first.
“We want to make sure people can see themselves growing right alongside the company,” said Richard Hunton, Jr., President and CEO of Hunton Group. “Whether someone has been here for decades or joined us last month, we want them to feel that their work matters and that there is a path forward for them.”
That commitment has earned Hunton Group recognition as a Houston Chronicle Top Workplace for 14 years and a national Top Workplace for five straight years. In 2026, they also earned eight Top Workplaces Culture Excellence awards, including recognition for professional development, employee appreciation, employee well-being, leadership, innovation and purpose and values.
The workplace has evolved along with the business. Hunton Group is one of the nation’s largest independent distributors of Trane HVAC equipment and parts, providing expertise across commercial and residential HVAC, service, building automation, security, fire and life safety, energy solutions and equipment rentals.
The company mission has allowed Hunton to continue expanding into new markets. That includes more work in the data center sector, supporting facilities from pre-construction through ongoing operation, where reliable HVAC and building systems can be critical to keeping facilities online.
Growth also means building a pipeline of skilled workers. Hunton Services operates a dedicated apprenticeship program that combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training for technicians. Across the organization, a dedicated health, safety and environmental program supports employees in the field and workplace.
“We know the expertise our customers depend on comes from our associates,” said Hunton, Jr., “That makes training, safety and professional development investments in the future of the business as much as they are investments in our people.”
Hunton Group’s focus extends beyond the workplace through Hunton Cares, its initiative for supporting employees and the communities where they live and work. The company also maintains ties to the region through partnerships, including Texas A&M Athletics.
With its College Station location opening in October and dozens of positions currently available, Hunton Group is still adding to its team.
“We’ve grown tremendously since 1981, and we expect to keep changing as technology, our industry and our customers’ needs evolve,” said Hunton, Jr. “What we don’t want to change is the sense that people are at the center of what we do.”
